One thing I've been doing is talking to people about my Bible reading--both what I've been reading and the fact that I'm establishing a new habit of reading the Bible an hour a day to read through in 90 days. I'm so happy that Nick talked to me (and others) about his reading, and I'd like to pass that on. Just today I told a sister about reading the Bible through in 90 days, and I think that inspired her. You could see the wheels turning. She definitely was interested in the idea and found it compelling.

Today, I told a student at U of Michigan that many Christians are swindled because they don't know the Bible. He agreed with me and stated "we should read the Bible and read it prayerfully."

To be a lover of the Word of God, where you spend as much time as you can in reading (slowly or quickly) and studying it, is not a common thing. The Spirit initiates this love and if we cooperate, the Word of God will become our chief joy in fellowship with Christ! I think if we speed read the New Testament there is something that has helped me. In Matthew 6, it says we should pray to the Father in our closets, and not let our left hand know what the right hand is doing. This should be applied to our reading of the Word of God. It should not be an accomplishment to be broadcasted. This will bring in pride and the Spirit will leave you to yourself in your Bible reading, and it will become a duty and not a joy.

My following comment only applies to the reading of the bible. It does not apply to the study of the bible. I read a book once in that the author suggest to have two bibles. One for the reading bible which should not have any marks or any personal notes. And the other for the study bible which you mark, underline, write any inspiration on the margin, etc.
For my reading bible, I like a giant or large letter bible. I have a bad eye sight, so practical reason I prefer bibles that have large letter size. As far as making a schedule, I like reading schedule divided by pages rather than chapters. The chapters of the bible can be distraction for me. The origianl bible does not have any chapter division. Practically, you can make your own bible schedule by total pages of your reading bible divided by days you want to read the bible through (30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 180 days and so on). I am using 90 day schedule right now. The way I read is to start from Genesis to Revelations. I believe the order of the books in the bible is also divinely inspired by God. So I like to follow along the way God put it together. Once you establish the schedule, stick to it. There is no short cut in bible reading. Also, ask Holy Spirt to guide you through your reading of the word. The follwing web site helped me a lot. I hope it helps everyone who reads it.

Nick, could you let us know what you got out of that website. For an interested lazy person like me, we need some Cliff Notes and an appetizer to go to the website. Thanks

Daniel,
The website is kind of testimony and research of a brother who shares his experience of his bible reading and method of the bible reading that he gained from many others. I know it is a lot of reading. But, I assure you it will be worth a time to invest.

I just wanted to tell Nicholas that I went to his recommended web site and found some helpful hints on Bible reading. It exposed my laziness, but inspired me to go on. Thanks

One thing that has helped me when reading through the New Testament quickly, is to use different translations. If I were to read through the New Testament 6, 8, or 10 times in a year, after the third or forth time using another version will bring in new thoughts on verses and passages, that I thought I knew or have become familiar with.
